North Carolina just secured its largest-ever economic development project: JetZero, a California-based aviation startup, will invest $4.7 billion to build an advanced aircraft assembly plant at Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI) near Greensboro. The factory is expected to employ over 14,500 workers, with salaries averaging $89,340—well above the county and state averages.
JetZero picked North Carolina over 16 other states, attracted by the Triad’s growing reputation as an aerospace hub. The project, known as Project Atlas, will transform hundreds of acres near PTI into a cutting-edge facility using AI-driven, “smart factory” technology to build its unique all-wing passenger jets, which boast 50% better fuel efficiency. Production is expected to begin ramping up by 2027.
Backed by local, state, and private incentives totaling nearly $2 billion, JetZero’s presence cements Greensboro and the Triad as a rising national force in aerospace manufacturing. The announcement follows recent investments from Boom Supersonic and Marshall Aerospace, adding momentum to the area’s transformation from its textile roots to a high-tech, high-wage transportation corridor.
For Triangle-area residents, this development highlights the strength and growing opportunity across central North Carolina. With the Triad booming and the Triangle thriving, our region continues to attract innovation, jobs, and long-term investment—making now a great time to consider real estate in the area.
